World Description: (Original Characters Only)

Adam's world is a land where there are monsters, vampires and demons. Until the 1970s, they were fairly hidden for the most part, but then the 'veil' as it is was pierced and they became known to the rest of the world. Of all the groups, vampires have had the easiest time being accepted into everyday society, but everyone has their struggles. Demon, vampire and monster 'tech' and magic was slowly being integrated into human society.

And then the Abominations came. Creatures from beyond time that lived inside the earth. The largest one began to exert an influence over the world. The town of Chicago was, due to the ...relatively kind-hearted machinations of the monster 'alpha', sealed off from the rest of the world. While the rest of the world was polluted and tormented, Chicago was sealed off. What's more, no one in Chicago really seemed to realise that they were, under some sort of spell to not notice these things are even happening or that they have had very little contact with the world at large.

The Northwest Territories of Canada has become a sort of strange haven for demons and humans escaping this sort of thing. Baltimore as well. California and New England are under control of Vampire Queen, Victoria (also called Layil) and those who worship these abominations.
Eventually, Chicago is unsealed, and after many battles the world settles to a sort of balance. There are two abominations left, Jacob the brother of the vampire king and Ericapaeus, who lives deep within the earth.
History:

Adam Grissom is, simplistically, the king of the vampires. Originally named Seth, he is thousands of years old. He was turned by the vampire queen, Victoria (Layil) so she would have someone equal to her to rule with. Her mistake, however, was choosing Seth as she had vastly misunderstood what sort of a person he was. While she is cruel and calculating and wishes to rule over all with an iron fist, Seth was kind and stubborn. While he could rule, he was more of a father figure or a kindly king to the vampires that he turned than a ruler like Victoria. He rebelled against her, taking more than half of the vampire clans with him leaving her only with the Hari, the Endari and the Loana.
For many, many years he ruled over his 'children', occasionally going into a sort of vampire hibernation while they policed and took care of themselves. If there was a severe issue or trouble with the Queen or a clan decided it should be worth more than the others, he would return. Take care of things, and go. Observing, using latent psychic abilities, as he slumbered.
Occasionally, he would marry and turn a vampire bride, but never unwillingly. This is how he met his wife, Sara, the fire vampire.
It would continue on like this until just 19 years ago, when the vampire queen decided that she wanted everything back. The Endari had, for whatever reason, gone over to Adam leaving her with only two clans. That was it for her. She gathered the vampires that she had and made deals with the abominations. Her first order of business? The destruction of Seth's wives. The second? The destruction of Seth himself, in body if nothing else.
It wasn't unsuccessful. His body was destroyed, his essence in the wind. All was doomed. No one had, however forseen that a the son of the monster 'alpha', Tom Grissom, would be born with no soul, damaged by these same abominations in an attack on the alpha.

It would have been easy enough for Seth to just take the body, but he somehow managed to ask for permission. Given that this would give his son a chance of life, Tom easily agreed and Seth the vampire king very quickly became Adam Grissom. Still king of the vampires, but in the body of a half human, half monster infant.

A second childhood was, to say the least, a little daunting. Especially in the world as it became. But after 19 years, Adam was grown and ready to again be turned into a vampire. He had even found a willing queen in his companion, the faith healer Lady Eloise.
Personality:

Adam is, as stated before, fairly kind and soft-hearted. He's more of a father figure to his 'children' than he is a harsh and controlling ruler and the clans that follow him love him for this. Unlike Victoria, he allows them to have their own lives without having to subject themselves to the whims of someone who only wants what they can do for them to be important.

That is not to say he cannot be frightening. If you harm one of his sired vampires (Stanley, a man he considers to be a son and has bestowed with the powers of a fire vampire and a daywalker) or someone that he considers part of his quasi-adopted family, he will take action. When his father's lover is harmed by his brother, he hunts him down and tears him wing to wing.

Basically, don't piss off the nice one.

Adam is also a very powerful psychic, capable of tarot reading and also able to read the poisoned book of the damned. These abilities, for the most part, came with the body that he took over, as did a nasty set of claws. The only aspect of his body's half-monster form that he retains even as a vampire.

Why do you think your character would work in this setting?

Adam adapts to things very well, and he'll find the idea of this place fascinating. It's not the first time he's been asked to settle somewhere new and help create a new town, and he'll take to the challenge.

How do you plan to expand their CR?

Adam is very social and he'll probably try to make friends with everyone. Curious about the world, and all of that.


What will your character do for work?

He will work at the tattoo parlor.

Adam strode into the council room in the headquarters behind the bar. Despite the fact that his body was just nineteen years old, he exuded a dignity as only a vampire of considerable age could. He stepped into the room with the authority and grace of a king and by his expression the vampires present could tell that he was keeping a great deal of anger in check.

He looked at the familiar leather jacket lying on the table. It was stiff with drying blood and even from a distance he knew whose blood it was. He could smell it, the familiarity.

“My brother has returned,” he stated. “Jacob, the abomination, pollutes the streets of Chicago. He has seen my father and my new sister and he has faced the Endari in battle.” He raised dark eyes to the assembled vampires. “Who knew of this?”

Silence.

“Michael Mainero,” he stated, his voice soft and even. “You were in the section of Chicago where the coat was found.”

Mainero nodded. “Yes, my lord, I was.”

“What saw you?”

“Nothing, my lord.”

“What did you smell?”

“Nothing, my lord.”

“Ellie!”
He left Megan to supervise the final touches to the table decorations and went to greet the lovely blonde woman standing in the solarium doors. Unable to keep the smile off his face, he lifted her hand to his lips before stepping back to admire her flowing blue dress.

“You look beautiful, my Lady,” he said, and for the first time he was almost shy before her radiant smile and her eyes. In all of his thousands of years, he'd rarely seen someone as lovely as she.

Ellie smoothed the collar of his suit. “And you look so handsome. You are going to dance with me later, aren’t you?”

His breath caught. “All night long. Every dance is yours.”

“Well, until then, I won’t keep you. I know you’re busy. I’ll go help your father with your sisters and I’ll wait for you in the foyer.” She leaned over and kissed him on the cheek, rendering him speechless. He could do nothing but stand there, watching her walk away, mesmerized by the long blonde hair and pale blue dress. A sigh escaped him, and he never noticed everyone around him was smiling.
